They also sometimes glide horizontally, but that upright stance – eye pointed skyward, long body trailing below – may help them sneak up on prey silhouettes or dodge predators. When threatened, they invert that webbed cloak over their body, showing off spiny-looking projections, but this looks more like a defense display than an attack.
