But pull the actual case files – old mining logs, quarry blasting reports, newspaper clippings from the 1800s – and a stranger pattern starts to surface. Objects that look unmistakably manufactured keep turning up sealed inside strata that had already finished forming millions, sometimes hundreds of millions, of years before anyone could have made them. Some of these cases collapse the second a geologist looks closely. Others don’t collapse quite so easily, and that’s exactly why they keep resurfacing.

Plenty of alternative explanations exist – contamination, mislabeled depth, modern debris mixed into old fill – but none of them have been proven, and the documentation from the original find has never been discredited.
